BRIEF HISTORY

Strathlyn Estate at Angaston in the Barossa Region of South Australia was once part of the much larger Salter Family Estate.

Strathlyn Residence was built by Fulton Salter, son of William Salter, in 1905 as a stately gentleman's home.

William Salter had founded Saltram Winery in 1859, and had the surrounding land planted with vines or fruit trees, which extended over hillsides on the western entrance to the township of Angaston.

The property of 46 acres was mainly vines for currants and raisin production and other horticultural pursuits. The Coach House on the property housed the family carriage. In later years, it stood idle, being only a haven for local bird life.

During the 1940's, much of the estate was divided and sold and what is currently Strathlyn Estate was bought by Tarac, a distillation and marc processing company. The property remained in the hands of Tarac until it was purchased by the Anderson family who are the owners today.
